Opening Ceremony at Kikkoman Singapore R&D Lab

On October 6, 2005, an opening ceremony for Kikkoman Singapore R&D Laboratory Pte. Ltd. was held at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The new laboratory, jointly established by Kikkoman Corporation and NUS, is situated in the Chemistry Department of the NUS Science Faculty.

Attending from Kikkoman were Yuzaburo Mogi, Chairman and CEO; Takashi Ushiku, President and COO; and other company officials. Representatives from Singapore included Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister of Education, and Professor Shih Choon Fong, President of NUS. Representatives of both domestic and foreign news media were also present at the grand ceremony. During the press conference following the event, Mr. Mogi expressed his enthusiasm for the new facility, the first in the world that Kikkoman is operating jointly with a university.

The new laboratory, fully funded by Kikkoman, employs Kikkoman’s brewing and fermentation technologies and the university’s scientific expertise in functional foods. Focused on traditional Asian foods and ingredients, the laboratory is engaged in research and development with the aim of putting safe, high quality foods on the market, with a particular focus on developing products for the Chinese market.
