Hokkaido Kikkoman Company Woodlands
Certified as “Nature Coexistence Site” by Ministry of Environment

Woodlands on the Hokkaido Kikkoman Company production site have been certified as a “Nature Coexistence Site” by the Ministry of Environment, Japan.

A “Nature Coexistence Site” is an area where biodiversity conservation efforts carried out by private sector initiatives are certified by the government of Japan. Certified areas, excluding those overlapping with protected areas, are registered in a global database as an “OECM” (*).

Woodlands (25,640 m² or 6.34 acres) on the Hokkaido Kikkoman Company site have retained deciduous broad-leaved trees for about 80 years and been certified as a valuable green zone, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare species.

Our company-wide environmental conservation system was built with a focus on the motto “an abundant environment is necessary for our dietary lifestyle” for our environmental activities .

The Hokkaido Kikkoman Company will continue efforts to preserve woodland biodiversity and conserve confirmed rare species of wild flora and fauna. We will also inform plant tour participants about the state of the woodlands and promote nature-positive activities aimed at ecological restoration.
