Kikkoman Sponsors Special Exhibition “Rembrandt the Etcher”
at the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo
June 30, 2026
Kikkoman Corporation will sponsor the special exhibition "Rembrandt the Etcher: His Challenges and His Impact," to be held at the National Museum of Western Art in Ueno, Tokyo, from July 7 to September 23, 2026. The exhibition is organized by the National Museum of Western Art, the Rembrandt House Museum, and The Asahi Shimbun Company, with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Japan.

This large-scale exhibition focuses on the etching works of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, a leading figure of 17th-century Dutch art, highlighting his innovative techniques and enduring influence on later generations. Rembrandt is widely recognized for his masterful use of light and shadow and his free exploration of composition, which left a profound mark on art history.
A Scholar in His Study ("Faust"), ca. 1652Through its longstanding business presence in the Netherlands, the Kikkoman Group has continuously supported the country's arts and cultural development. In 1997, to commemorate the grand opening of its production base in the Netherlands, Kikkoman Foods Europe B.V. (KFE) contributed 300,000 guilders (approximately JPY 18 million at the time) toward the restoration of the Rembrandt House Museum's main building and the construction of its new wing, in recognition of Dutch history and culture. The new wing was completed in April 1998 and inaugurated in September of the same year. Kikkoman has continued to support the museum ever since.

Kikkoman Foods Europe B.V. (KFE)Regarding this partnership spanning more than 25 years, Milou Halbesma, General Director of the Rembrandt House Museum, commented as follows:
"For many people it is a surprise to hear of Rembrandt's love for Japan, but for anyone visiting the Rembrandt House, it is quickly clear how many connections there were. Kikkoman is a highly valued partner, for whom craftsmanship is a core value: they help us in turn make Rembrandt's craftmanship accessible for everyone."
This sponsorship was made possible by the trust and strong partnership that has developed over more than 25 years. The spirit of challenge and exploration evident in Rembrandt's etching resonates with Kikkoman's longstanding philosophy of craftsmanship, and through this exhibition, we hope that more people will experience and appreciate these shared values.
During the exhibition period, a limited number of commemorative "Kikkoman × Rembrandt House" tabletop soy sauce dispensers will be available for purchase at the museum shop inside the National Museum of Western Art. These items are specially imported from the Rembrandt House Museum in the Netherlands for the exhibition.

The Kikkoman Group will continue to contribute to harmonious coexistence with local communities and their development through its support of cultural initiatives in the Netherlands and beyond. Guided by our corporate philosophy, "to fill the world with the joys of food," we remain committed to deepening our connections with society.
