Kikkoman do Brasil Holds Seminar on Sodium Reduction
for Older Adults in São Paulo

In January 2026, Kikkoman do Brasil Indústria e Comércio de Alimentos e Bebidas Ltda. (KDB) held a seminar on lower sodium intake for older adults at the Nipo-Brazilian Hospital (operated by ENKYO) in São Paulo, Brazil. This initiative aimed to promote understanding of how soy sauce can be used to reduce sodium and to expand options in everyday meals.

Seminar on Sodium Reduction

This initiative was planned through personnel dispatched to the Nipo-Brazilian Hospital by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). As these personnel were exploring the possibility of organizing a seminar for older adults, KDB participated as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, leading to the seminar. In addition, JFC Tradbras, our group company engaged in the wholesale distribution of Asian foods in Brazil, provided support by supplying less sodium soy sauce.

Approximately 30 older adults attended the seminar, during which a lecture was delivered based on a sodium reduction leaflet published by Kikkoman. The lecture introduced findings that the use of soy sauce can enhance perceived taste while reducing sodium intake. In addition, samples of salad with dressing and a hot pot-style napa cabbage and pork dish prepared using less sodium soy sauce were served, providing practical ideas for everyday meals.

Seminar on Sodium Reduction

Participants showed strong interest in the characteristics and uses of soy sauce throughout the seminar. Following the lecture, attendees compared the ingredient labels of Kikkoman Soy Sauce with those of other brands, noting differences in ingredients and gaining new insights, making this a valuable learning opportunity. These responses may reflect a growing awareness in Brazil of health issues such as hypertension, as well as increasing interest in reconsidering daily eating habits. In this context, the initiative provided an opportunity to deepen understanding of how to use soy sauce and approaches to reducing sodium intake.
