The Special Limited Edition 2024
soy sauce tabletop dispensers have been launched in Europe
Expressing a sustainable symbiosis using Ume and Mejiro

March 8, 2024

Every year starting from 2020, Kikkoman Trading Europe GmbH, or KTE, of Kikkoman's sales base in Europe offers the Special Limited Edition soy sauce tabletop dispensers infused with Japanese culture and wishes in some regions of Europe for a limited period. As the fifth-generation Special Limited Edition, this year’s uniquely designed dispensers draw inspiration from Japanese mythology: the plum blossom (ume) and the Japanese white-eye bird (mejiro).

In Japan, plum blossoms are said to bring good fortune because of their ability to bloom even in the cold winter. When plum blossoms bloom, mejiro, which really love them, gather to drink their nectar. Mejiro plays an important role of carrying pollen to more plum blossoms, by scattering it with their feathers, while flittering from one branch to another. Likening to the belief of harmony with nature which Kikkoman has hold since its founding, this sustainable symbiosis between mejiro and plum trees is depicted on its soy sauce tabletop dispensers.

Since its establishment in 1979, KTE has carried out a variety of sales activities to locally convey deliciousness of Kikkoman Soy Sauce, such as development of recipes blending with food cultures around Europe and in-store promotions. The Special Limited Edition soy sauce tabletop dispensers were produced as part of a marketing activity to help consumers to feel familiar with and deepen their understanding of Kikkoman brand. In order to help existing and new customers to experience soy sauce as a more familiar seasoning, KTE's website publishes a wide range of recipes using Kikkoman Soy Sauce and proposes new deliciousness.

Kikkoman will continue to develop its business activities rooted in regions around the world and spread the Kikkoman brand at local communities.

Shared happiness: the Japanese koi and the lotus flower represent prosperity, happiness, health and strength. The proximity of these two symbols on the dispenser signifies coming together at the table, sharing a meal, and family unity. Enjoyment brings people together: the dark red foliage of the Japanese Momiji maple tree displays its full splendor in autumn. These trees, typical in Japan, transform the country into a beautiful fall landscape for a few weeks. The round moon is a metaphor for harmony, and the golden bridge symbolizes the connection of cultures, people and tastes.
