Changing to biomass plastic straws for soymilk products for export
Providing not only deliciousness but also consideration for the earth

April 23, 2024

Since late March of 2023, Kikkoman Corporation has gradually changed material of spout caps for 1000ml products and straws for 200ml products of Kikkoman Soymilk sold in Japan to plant-derived biomass plastic. Starting in April of 2024, we will be gradually changing*1 straws for all kinds of items of 200ml soymilk products for export sold in the Asia/Oceania region to ones made from 100% biomass plastic.

Biomass plastic is made from bioethanol produced by fermenting sugarcane. Until now, we have used plastic straws derived from petroleum (an exhaustible resource) for soymilk products for export, but we expect to reduce the use of petroleum-derived plastics by switching to renewable resources made from plants. On the other hand, the usability and shape of the straws remain the same, so you can enjoy our delicious soymilk as before.

In order to deliver Kikkoman Japan Soymilk to customers overseas, Kikkoman Corporation began exporting our unsweetened soymilk, processed soymilk, and soymilk beverages to the Asia/Oceania region in 2019. We support local customers to live in health every day with our products of the same quality as those sold in Japan, and a wide variety of flavors such as sweets and fruits. We will provide a new and earth-friendly value in addition to the same delicious taste as before by starting to use biomass plastic for straws.

*1 We plan to complete replacing the straws for all products by the end of FY2024.
