Installation of PV Systems at KIKKOMAN (S) PTE LTD
- Reducing CO2 emissions by 13% through renewable energy generation

May 21, 2024

In December 2023, KIKKOMAN (S) PTE LTD (KSP), Kikkoman’s soy sauce production base in Singapore, installed PV (photovoltaic or solar panel) systems at its plant with the aim of CO2 emissions reduction.

Kikkoman has been promoting the installation of PV systems on the roofs of some of its production facilities in an effort to produce clean electricity from sunlight to utilize in our production activities and reduce CO2 emissions.
So far, we have installed solar panels at three production bases in Japan and overseas, and KSP is the fourth. In terms of overseas production bases, it is the second site after the KIKKOMAN FOODS, INC. California Plant in the U.S.

For this initiative, KSP installed more than 1,500 solar panels on the plant roof. The annual power generation is estimated to exceed 1,000 MWh, which will cover more than 25% of KSP's annual electricity consumption and will reduce CO2 emissions by 13%.

The person in charge of the initiative at KSP commented as follows.
“There were multiple issues, such as complying with the latest fire regulations and ensuring roof strength, but when faced with each we worked with the contractor to resolve these one by one, and managed to install solar-electric power generators.
Singapore is located close to the equator making it well-suited for highly efficient solar power generation. We are happy for this opportunity to make the most of locality characteristics to install an efficient and eco-friendly power generation system.”

As part of our efforts to protect the global environment, we will continue to maintain high awareness for new environmental technologies available worldwide and contribute to a sustainable society.
