Cut the chicken into large chunks. Cut the turnip into comb shaped pieces, and the carrot into 2-3 mm (1/8 in.) thick pieces.

Remove the stem and sinew from the string beans and boil. Cut into 3 cm (1 in.) lengths.

Place (1) in a pot and slightly fill with water along with the chicken stock. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes until the vegetables have softened. Finally, add in (2) and season with salt and pepper.

Rather that removing one stem at a time, it is much faster to lay the beans with stems facing in the same direction and then cut these off at once.
