Chop the chicken into large bite-size pieces, season with salt and pepper.

Remove the stem and seeds from the bell peppers, cut into 2 cm (0.8 in.) cubes.

Mix the onions and soy sauce in a bowl, set aside.

Boil the macaroni in lightly salted water for the set recommended time. Two minutes before finishing, add in the ingredients from step (1), quickly boil together and strain.

Add the ingredients from step (4) to the ingredients from step (3), add in half of the white sauce and mix all together.

Add the milk to the remaining white sauce. Season with salt and pepper and mix.

Lightly smear butter (not included in recipe ingredients) on the interior of a heat-safe plate. Pour in the ingredients from step (5) evenly. Layer on the ingredients from step (6), sprinkle on the cheese and bread crumbs.

Cook in a preheated oven or toaster oven until the surface is slightly burnt.

Bell peppers - removing seeds
Cut the bell pepper in half, fold the stem and then remove the seeds with your fingers. This is an easier and less wasteful method than using a knife.
