Peel and thinly slice up the potatoes, place in water then drain and dry thoroughly.

Mince the onion and garlic.

Heat the olive oil in a fry pan and saute (2). When softened, add in and cook the ground meat.

Add and mix in the diced tomatoes. When the mixture begins to simmer, season with (A).

Spread half of (1) into a baking dish (au gratin bakeware), and spread on half of (4) on top. Repeat this process with the remaining ingredients, then sprinkle entirely with the cheese and cook in a toaster oven for 15 minutes. While cooking, cover with aluminum foil and check periodically to control how golden the casserole becomes.

Onions - finely chopped
Cut the onion with its outer skin removed vertically in half, and thinly slice cut-side down without cutting as far as the base. Then lay the knife flat and insert horizontal cuts, finely chopping from end to end.
Garlic - mincing
Remove the skin of the garlic clove, and cut vertically in half. Then remove the core, slice thinly cut-side down without cutting as far as the base part, and lay the knife flat and insert horizontal cuts. Finally, mince from end to end.
