Vertically slice the octopus into 5 mm (1/4 in) pieces.

Cut the new potatoes into 3-4 cm (1.5 in) long sticks, then soak in water.

Remove the seeds from the red chili pepper and cut into little pieces.

Add some salad oil to a fry pan and fry (3), careful not to burn.

Remove and dry (2) and turn the heat to high. Fry the potato sticks for about 2 min.

Add in the octopus and continue to stir fry.

Pour on the sake and soy sauce. Sprinkle on the ground black pepper, turn off the heat and serve.
