Ingredients(Servings: 1)


300 g (10.6 oz.)

3 Tbsp

1 tsp

oil for deep-frying

as required


1/3 tsp

a dash


as required


  1. Rinse off well and peel the yams, cut into 1 cm (0.4 in.) width and 8 cm (3 in.) length sticks. Place into a cooking tray, season with (A) and set aside to soak up flavor for 10 minutes.
  2. Cover 1 with 3 Tbsp of flour, combine together and set aside for 5 minutes.
  3. Spread out some flour in a separate tray and coat each stick from (2) (handle with care as these sticks break easily).
  4. Pour about 2 cm (0.8 in.) of oil into a 26 cm (10.2 in.) fry pan and turn the heat to medium. Once the temperature reaches 170 to 180℃ (338 to 356°F) add in (3) one at a time, and deep-fry for 5 to 6 minutes. Flip the sticks over half-way through, then turn the heat to high and once the coating is crunchy, remove from the oil into a bowl.
  5. While still hot, add in the sugar and soy sauce, combine well, then serve onto plates with a sprinkle of green nori seaweed flakes.
