Cut the pork into 4 cm (1.6 in.) widths and chop the Chinese cabbage at a 45 degree angle into large pieces. Remove hard bottoms from and then quarter the shiitake mushrooms.

Place (A) into a fry pan, add in (1) and cover with a lid. Once boiling allow to simmer for about 10 minutes on low.

Add (B) while stirring in, quickly bring to a boil to thicken the cooking liquids.

The hard base, called "ishizuki" in Japanese, is the blackish tip at the end of the stem. Use a knife to cut or scrape off this portion.
